Proust had his madeleine, that unintentionally brought back memories of his childhood. I have the ma’amoul, that brings back memories of the desert. The round or domed cookie, filled with dates, nuts or figs and dusted with powdered sugar is delicious with coffee or tea.
Every time we went out camping in the desert, I made sure we had at least one box of ma’amoul. Easy to store and transport, filling and satisfying, it became the cookie of choice for our tea or coffee breaks among the dunes.
