Reading During the Lockdown

I recently read on social media that many people struggle reading and focusing during the covid 19 lockdown. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t had that problem yet. On the contrary, more than ever, reading is a way to escape the lockdown, travel without leaving my apartment, dream or reflect on life and its priorities.

This year, I set my Goodreads Challenge at 70 books, and although it seems huge to some, I am already at book 22, so 2020 looks promising. Among my favorite reads so far, I’d like to mention:

Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano, inspired by a true story, of a 12-year old boy who is the sole survivor of a plane crash. Too depressing you might think? Not so fast! Ann Napolitano is a talented writer, her novel is a page-turner and Edward’s story is an uplifting one. Not a small feat, given the subject. An excellent subject of reflection about priorities in life, now more than ever.

Ties by Domenico Starnone, written in Italian and beautifully translated by Jhumpa Lahiri, is the story of a marriage, of love, family, bonds and guilt. I couldn’t put the book down and although none of the characters were particularly attractive to me, I found them compelling and the ending took be my surprise.

I hope this will encourage you to read, please let me know what you are reading. Stay safe,

Happy reading!

Evelyne
